Although recording settings can be adjusted based on the preferences of the instructor, a Flex course is generally recorded automatically for later use. This page provides information regarding the various recording features that are offered with the Flex modality.
The Recording Process
Each recording follows a streamlined, efficient process to benefit both instructors and students:
Based on an instructor's preferences, the Zoom meeting (or class) starts automatically as scheduled and begins recording.
After the recording, each class session recording is initially stored and made available on Zoom.
Within 24 hours, recordings are then automatically transferred to Kaltura MyMedia for compression (or combining different recordings), automatic captioning, and long-term storage. You can learn more about this process on Kaltura's website.
Once processed, videos stored on Kaltura MyMedia can then be easily embedded and shared in Canvas so students in your course can view them. The instructions for embedding a video on Canvas is shared on our Canvas page.
*These recordings should only be shared within the same course. Since students are recognizable, the videos cannot be reused for different courses due to FERPA regulations.
Types of Recordings or Videos
When a Flex class is recorded, depending on what activities you do in class, different types of videos/recordings will be created. Again, these multiple recordings will be automatically combined and generally made available on Kaltura MyMedia within 24 hours of the class session. However, instructors can access each of these individual recordings through their Zoom account:

Options to Adjust, View Recordings
When MyMedia recordings are embedded in a course, students in that course have multiple ways to view and manipulate the playback of that recording.
Oftentimes, the 'Shared screen with Speaker' view is helpful for students, but the usability of each video depends on individual courses and activities. When videos are played from MyMedia recordings, students have the option to choose which view they find most beneficial. This list details some of those options:
The gallery view with the an active speaker will show students their peers, while keeping the presenter pinned on top:
The active speaker view can also be swapped with the gallery view:
Shared screen/content (e.g. a presentation) can be viewed full-size, with or without the speaker's picture:
The active speaker and the presentation can also be viewed side-by-side:
